Mary Elizabeth Smith was born December 4, 1952 in Chicago, IL. to the union of Leanel and Lizzie Bryant. Named after her grandmother, she was one of eleven children. Four sisters Leonorie, Estella, Penny and Lizzie. Six brothers Leanel Jr., James, Leonarge, Levester, Murray and Terry. She was united in matrimony to Arthur Smith III on August 29, 1970. God blessed this union with four lovely children. Laronda, Tyrone (Lynette), Tiffany (Tabari) and Damarco (JoAnn).
Mary was a bold, honest, and no nonsense type of woman. She was known for speaking the truth when no one else would. She had impeccable taste. Shopping and home décor were her passions. Her family was her pride and joy. She always put the needs of those whom she loved before her own. She lived life to the fullest. She loved to laugh and make others do the same. She will always be remembered for her beautiful smile.
Mary was diagnosed with a brain tumor in early September and made her transition shortly after on Sunday September 14, 2003. Since her untimely death, her family has continued to grow expanding to include the addition of two daughter-n- laws. A total of four granddaughters Amber, Asia, Noori and Savannah. Six grandsons Taje, Kobe, Damarco Jr., Jordan, Ryan and DeAndre. One great granddaughter and a great grandson. A multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins and other loved ones continue to cherish her memory.
