Stacey Mitchell – Director

Stacey Mitchell is a managing director of staff diversity. She attended the University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign and graduated with distinction, earning a B.A. in English. Immediately following, she taught 6th grade Reading, Language Arts and Social Studies in Oxford, North Carolina. During her time there, she was a 3-time recipient of the A+ Award for Excellence in Teaching and was 2004-2005 Teacher of the Year. Stacey has also worked as an editor for Scott Foresman on a reading program for students at least one grade-level behind. Stacey has served on Teach For America’s staff since 2006 and now leads staff diversity and inclusiveness efforts as the Managing Director of Staff Diversity.   Stacey volunteers with Chicago’s youth through Umoja and in her church’s nursery ministry and has served on the Teach For America-Chicago Alumni Executive Board. Though born and raised in Chicago, Stacey now lives right outside of the city with her family.
